Parahawking Sponsored by Gin Gliders
Parahawking is the art of training birds of prey to fly with Paragliders, it was developed and pioneered in 2001 here in Pokhara by Scott Mason and our team of experts. By combining Paragliding with the ancient art of Falconry, we are able to train birds of prey to fly with us, guide us to thermals and even perform aerobatic manoeuvres. Eagles, Kites and Vultures are natural soaring birds, together with Paragliders they use thermals to fly long distances whilst conserving energy. Our trained birds are no different, they will utilise the thermals and guide us to them, then be rewarded in the air for their efforts. The ultimate flying companion! Black Kites are particularly agile in flight, out-manoeuvring the most skilled paragliders. Our Kites are able to spiral, stoop and perform the most incredible aerobatics whilst chasing the glider to get their reward. For anybody interested in birds of prey, this is truly an amazing experience. Frontiers Paragliding have teamed up with Scott Mason's Parahawking project to offer a range of Parahawking and Falconry experiences including: Parahawking
The Parahawking Tandem flight is quickly becomming the new "must do" activity in Nepal. Parahawking is the art of training bids of prey to fly with paragliders; it was developed and pioneered in 2001 in Pokhara by our team of experts. By combining paragliding with the ancient art of falconry, we have trained birds of prey to fly with us, guide us to thermals and even perform aerobatic manoeuvres! Now you too can experience parahawking by taking a tandem flight with one of our trained birds. Marvel as the bird guides us through the skies and then call him to land on your gloved hand as we fly. We'll even film the whole flight from our on-board cameras. A totally unique and unforgettable experience – sure to be the highlight of your trip to the beautiful Pokhara valley!
Another world first - Can you imagine paragliding in the Himalayas with a trained bird of prey and the bird filming your entire flight from a camera mounted on his back. It sounds unbelievable doesn't it, well it's not. For the first time ever you can have your entire Parahawking tandem flight filmed by Kevin and The Kev Cam. We take off early in the morning to ensure that we are the only gliders in the sky, this way Kevin will follow us all the way. We will then edit the movie and present you with a finished DVD of your flight. Kevin's skills at aerial cimematography are amazing. To see the movie - click here
As paraglider pilots, we are constantly searching for signs of lift which will enable us to stay up and keep flying. Quite often that sign will come in the form of a wild bird, an Eagle or Vulture, effortlessly soaring and climbing in a thermal. Now you can take one of our trained birds for a solo flight and allow him to guide you to the thermals. Spend a day in the hands of our experts learning and experiencing Parahawking. In the morning you will handle and become acquainted with our birds, then take a tandem flight with our instructor so you are familiar with the Parahawking procedures. In the afternoon you are ready to fly solo with only the bird as your guide. Another world first from the Parahawking pioneers and only available here in Nepal! Falconry
From our beautiful home on the banks of Lake Fewa you can get up close and personal with some of Nepal's native birds of prey. Learn how to handle a hawk then walk her to her flying site where you will cast her into the skies. She will soar in the wind with her wild cousins and then return to your gloved hand for her reward before she is cast away again. A breathtaking experience and a first in Nepal!
